Noise Impact Assessments

Noise Impact Assessments for Planning

Impact Acoustics provide a full range of acoustic surveys and noise assessments for planning and in the workplace

We are here to help

Noise Impact Assessment | Acoustic Survey | Sound Testing

Noise impact assessments are often required for planning applications and noise related planning conditions. This can be anything from installing a brand new air source heat pump, building a new housing site near a busy road or even converting office space to residential development in a busy high street or commercial area. Impact Acoustics can help you through the requirements for noise impact assessment and noise survey for these and many other noise related types of noise survey whether your project is in Dorset, Hampshire, Devon, Cornwall, Wiltshire, Sussex, Surrey, London, Berkshire, Somerset, Kent, Warwickshire, West Midlands or any location throughout the UK; Impact acoustics can help you with your noise impact assessment

Noise Survey for Mechanical Plant and Commercial Noise

Impact Acoustics undertake a range of noise impact assessments and acoustic surveys for mechanical plant form kitchen extract systems to air source heat pumps. When a noise source (for example a refrigeration unit) is being introduced into a noise sensitive environment. There may be a requirement for a noise impact assessment to be undertaken. Impact Acoustics can undertake noise impact assessments and acoustic reports for planning to discharge any requirement for the installation of plant and undertake in accordance with BS4142:2019 where applicable.

Noise Impact Assessment for Road and Rail Traffic

Sensitive receptors (for example a house, flat or a garden) that is nearby a noise source like a busy road or a rail line may require a noise survey to control the passage of sound and reduce the noise impact at the site. Noise impact assessments are undertaken in accordance with BS8233:2014 and where applicable will specify the correct glazing ventilation as well as any acoustic screening that may be necessary.

What are the four stages of a noise imapct assessment?

In accordance with governments guidelines at the environment agency (gov.uk) there a four stages to a noise impact assessment: these are detailed below:

01

Desktop risk assessment

This allows us to identify noise source, noise sensitive premises ,potential impact and requirement for further investigation

02

Site background noise monitoring

This allows us to understand the existing noise climate as well as propagation conditions and how the noise levels change throughout an operating period.

03

Noise source assessment

By noise modelling or calculations we are able to work out the resulting noise levels due to noise source in the environment

04

Noise mitigation

Depending on the level of noise impact; we are able to specific reasonable and best practical means for noise control and noise mitigation.

What is a noise Impact Assessment?

Noise Impact Assessments, often required by planning for discharge of noise related conditions or for support with noise assessments for planning applications are the method of assessing whether noise source will cause a significant or adverse impact that would impact amenity once introduced or developed near. Examples of typical noise impact assessments for an introduction of noise source may be installing a kitchen extract system or an air source heat pump and assessing the noise from these on the existing nearby residential amenity where an acoustic survey or sound test in accordance with BS4142:2019 would be needed. Another example may be the introduction of residential development near to a busy road or rail way line where a noise survey and noise impact assessment for planning would be required in accordance with BS8233:2014.

How much does a noise impact assessment cost?

Noise Impact Assessment price and Acoustic Reports price for either noise related planning application or noise related conditions are priced depending on several factors. Consideration is made to what are the noise sources of note in the environment be being introduced or existing as well as the environment at site. Consideration to noise sensitive locations and background noise measurement positions as well as operational times of the noise source that is being assessed. Impact Acoustics will make every effort to be competitive and meet the project needs by both client and planning requirements for sound testing and noise impact assessment.
